Using Google transit routing on the iPhone
Posted by Joe Hughes under Google Transit, Mobile
As some people have noticed, right now it’s hard to get transit routing from Google Maps on iPhones, because Apple’s software grabs most Google Maps URLs and sends them to the built in Maps application. This situation will no doubt be improved in the future, but in the meantime, here’s a workaround.
To get Google transit routing on your iPhone, go to:
http://maps.google.com/transit
and do your search from there. This will give you plain-HTML transit results.

Congratulations to you on behalf of all of us who have been stumped by the Google Transit/Maps switch on the iPhone.
I tried your instruction — and it worked beautifully.
Thanks very much for helping us put Google Transit where it belongs: at the bus stop on an iPhone.

This actually doesn’t work for me - although I’m using an iPhone with the very first iteration of firmware (1.0.x) - could this be the issue on my end? Has anyone else had success on an iPhone using the earliest version of firmware?

Tim, it does appear that Apple changed the rules for which Google Maps URLs they capture in their firmware updates, so you may be out of luck if your iPhone isn’t up to date. If you do find a workaround for older firmware, let me know!

This one isn’t working for me either. I’m using 1.1.2.
Whether I use the kbd “search’” button, or hit “done”, then tap the google/transit search button, iphone kicks it over to the map app, and I get driving directions.
